My Journalism Journey

I’m Liza Martin, currently pursuing a degree in broadcast journalism at Suffolk University in Boston. From a young age, I have been deeply passionate about the power of communication and its ability to shape perspectives, influence decisions, and create meaningful change in people’s lives.

My personal and professional aspirations are closely intertwined, as my ultimate goal is to become a global news reporter. I envision myself traveling the world, bringing important stories to the forefront, and shedding light on critical issues that impact communities across the globe. Communication is more than just sharing information—it’s about making a lasting difference.

Internship Experience

This passed summer I completed an internship at El Planeta, a Spanish-language Latino newspaper based in Massachusetts. The publication focuses on local news and opportunities for immigrant Latino communities in Boston.

I covered a variety of events, including political, cultural, and health-related gatherings, where I gathered information and exclusive quotes for El Planeta. I conducted interviews, specifically seeking out Spanish-speaking individuals to craft articles tailored to each topic.

“El Platena”, latin newspaper where I did some articles.

In addition, I contributed to content creation for El Planeta’s Instagram, producing reels that highlighted local sites and events around the city.

I also wrote several articles, drawing from both interviews and press releases, to provide engaging and relevant coverage.

Where I Come From

Being from Venezuela has made me feel incredibly fortunate, despite the challenges my country is currently facing. Studying journalism in Boston has been a dream come true, and I carry my homeland with deep love and gratitude. Venezuela shaped me into who I am today, instilling in me the rich culture and strong character that defines us as Venezuelans.
